January Promotions

Is it really the end of January already?! Where on earth has the time gone? Well, I have spent so much time in personal growth and honestly, into my kids, that I haven’t bothered to create my own promotion. So here it is, at the very end of the month: January Promotions.

young living premium starter kit

The first that I want to tell you about is actually from Young Living. If you sign up from now until January 31st with a Premium Starter Kit with the Dewdrop diffuser, they will send you a bonus oil of Peace and Calming. As in original Peace and Calming. As in this stuff is rarely in stock, and promotions are the only way to get it right now! Go, click here order your Premium Starter Kit. Enjoy all the Peace and all the Calming!

SliquePnC

That was already an amazing offer, but I am going to make it even better for one lucky new oiler. Each person who signs up with a Premium Starter Kit (PSK) anywhere in my group by January 31st will be entered to win Slique Essence from yours truly. This is an awesome blend that can be beneficial for your weight maintenance goals, especially when combined with the other Slique products*. Digestive support is also a nice perk*. So if you are struggling to stick with those goals you made for yourself this year, maybe this will be the ticket to get you back on track. What in the world are you waiting for? Click to get your PSK!

SacredMountain

Great deals right?! An awesome way to start your essentially oily lifestyle, right? Well, I have one more fun promotion for you. While you are busy liking and sharing on facebook, head on over to mine, where your liking and sharing can earn you a free oil from me. That’s right. Sacred Mountain is a favorite of mine because of its scent that reminds me a bit of the also frequently out of stock original Valor. Sacred Mountain is strengthening, empowering, and grounding when diffused or used topically. Go! Enter to win. This promotion will end February 3.

While you are on my facebook page, be sure to check out the events that I have scheduled. There are two online (facebook) classes as well as a local event on the calendar. I am working on more. Oh, did I mention that there will be a prize during  at least one of those events? You have to be there and participate to win, so go check it out!

So much goodness this month! I can’t wait for you to grab your owns extras this month!

I will be back soon with some more exciting things as well as real life stories on why everyone needs these oils.

Discipline

Discipline. This topic has been on my mind and on my heart for a bit now. I had planned on typing up this blog post a week ago. Then kids, dishes, laundry, Halloween, and well, let’s just be honest here… I lack discipline.

discipline, motivation, young living, rockin oily momma

I always have. Always. In elementary school I rarely did my homework. I had all the excuses and no discipline. I understood the work and the assignments, my test scores proved that. My grades were pitiful. Middle school was just as bad until my dad talked my English teacher into having me bring home a detention slip to be signed by my parents for every assignment I didn’t turn in on time. High school was more of the same until I took a look at my mom’s job and the glass ceiling she faced for not having a college degree. I decided that I needed to get better grades and a bit of discipline my junior and senior year. Even then, I did the bare minimum to keep my grades at A’s and B’s. Truth be told, I also was highly motivated by the thought of being exempted from my semester tests.

All that carries into adulthood and really caught up with me this week. I had so much that I wanted to do and needed to do around the house. I want my husband to feel that my being a stay at home mom is worthwhile. The condition of our house last week had me saying that it wasn’t. I had a host of excuses, again, no discipline. I want to be a stay at home mom, and I want to do fun things with my babies. So we lollygagged around the house each morning (because I am not a morning person AT ALL) before heading out for fun at the park, pumpkin patch, or Halloween activities at various locations.

14910486_10154631457037008_1911682116313148936_n

Then Saturday night as I was getting my kids into bed I was hit hard with what I was teaching my kids. I am teaching them through my actions and lack of discipline that doing the important and responsible things can wait if there is a fun thing to do. Is that really what I want to teach my kids? Goodness gracious no!

So now I am on a mission to develop some discipline in my life. In so many areas of my life. In caring for my home and those in it, in my health (must start exercising), and especially in my business.

14592172_609744495879727_9175176460774670336_n

I have watched so many people pass me by in these areas and had my own private pity party asking myself “Why not me?” Discipline. That is the hard to face truthful answer. I must develop discipline in order to have the things I want most in life. I absolutely need to teach my kids the importance of discipline. They need to see mom living as an example that fun is great to have, but sometimes there are more important things that need to come first.

14693722_950402075064349_4548595173642207232_n

So I am on a mission. I am developing a plan and diffusing and applying lots of oils of course! I will develop discipline, and my life and the lives of my babies will be so much better for it.

Blessings,

Wisdom from my Friend

In case you couldn’t tell by my previous post, I absolutely adore my friend Carrie. She has made such a difference in my life. We met because of essential oils, but she has spoken so much truth and life into me that is far more than just essential oils, or business. She has taught me who I want to be as a woman, a wife, and a mother. She has also set me on a path that I never would have dreamed as she helped me see a need that is not being filled well.

When I met Carrie, I truly doubted I would ever have a son. My husband had 4 amazing daughters when I met him and we had recently had a daughter together. Almost everyone who knew my husband told me not to get my hopes up because, well, just look at my husband’s history. They told me that Sherrell boys don’t have boys. I told Carrie about how I had longed for a son since shortly after my high school days were over. Carrie gave me the book Supernatural Childbirth, which I still maintain is a must-read for any follower of Christ who is of child-bearing age. It’s not just about natural childbirth, it’s about believing God for the desires of your heart, after all, it is He who put them there!

SupernaturalChildbirth

At that time in my life, well for most of my life, I was a rule follower. I did my best to follow the rules, and do what was expected, without asking any questions. I rarely had a solid opinion on anything, and generally trusted all authority figures to have my best interest in mind. Then Carrie began to ask me some questions that changed the way I thought, and the advice I allowed myself to consider.

The first thing she asked me, still in regard to my mis-belief that I couldn’t have a son was “Is that biblically true?” The truth that people share can often be distorted, changed, or just plain wrong. God’s truth has been the same for thousands of years. Some of it may not be popular, but it is truth none the less. So if that belief that I held was not of God, than it is not truth. Wow! That set a change in me as I read through the Bible.

Believe2

I read Eve’s exclamation “With God’s help I have brought forth a son.” I prayed that I would be Eve, and that I would always remember God’s work in my family. I read of Sarah, having a beloved son in her old age. While I was older than many childbearing women, I was certainly not as old as my namesake! If God could give Sarah a son, he could do the same for me. The one that resonated with me most was reading of Hannah. She wept and cried, begging God for a child. She was so distraught that the priest thought she was drunk, she explained the pain of her unfulfilled desire for a child. The priest told her that God would grant her a son. I remember reading that and seeing how God just wants us to he honest with Him. If things suck, tell God the truth about your hurts, and ask Him to help you trust His goodness in the situation.

We conceived a child (our second together). When I asked Robbie about an ultrasound and finding out the gender, he said he didn’t want to know. We had prayed for a baby and waited close to a year before my positive test, we didn’t want to spend any time disappointed over gender. I remember so many people who said the suspense of not knowing was killing them while I was pregnant. I remember a peace and deep knowing that God was going to give me a son. I will never forget the moment my husband turned to tell me through tears “It’s a boy!”

PregoRiley

God is so good! He is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow. If what you believe is not from God in His Word, then you need to really examine whether it is true. His truth is the only truth that matters.

I completely went in a direction different from what I had planned with this blog post, but I feel I need to leave it as is because someone needs to see this, so I will have yet more on that lovely friend of mine soon.

A Wonderful Mentor and Friend

Have you met someone who changed your life in a positive way? Someone so full of love and passion and encouragement that you couldn’t help but crave more time with them as you listen to their wisdom, even if the words you are hearing aren’t what you want to hear?

I was blessed to meet such a person somewhere around 6 years ago, I don’t know the exact day. Life began to change all those years ago when I borrowed the husband’s car to drive after church to a meeting for a doula organization that was having a meeting in Norman. I was and still am passionate about childbirth, so a doula friend who was in midwifery training at the time invited me. The topic was essential oils for pregnancy and childbirth. I had never been an essential oil user before, so I had no idea what to expect, I just knew that I wanted to spend as much time as possible around other birth workers as possible.

Carrie

The meeting was taught by Carrie McVige. I was moved by her authenticity and vulnerability when telling her story of how she came to discover the essential oils, and the huge impact they have had on her life. I kept in touch with her for months before I finally committed to buying a starter kit. While she has, and continues to mentor me in Young Living usage and business, this post is about far more important things.

After I ordered my kit, she invited me to her home for a raindrop. Before the raindrop though, she spent a good deal of time talking to me about life. She took the time to hear my heart, and my deepest desires: my yearning to have a son, and to have time to be a good mom.

BelieveOil

She was such an encouragement through the worst storms of my marriage, and I will always be grateful for her speaking the difficult truth when she asked me if I really felt divorce was what I wanted for me and my family. The answer was an absolute no. She spent so much time during that time praying for me and encouraging me to work on improving myself to be the wife and mom I wanted to be. All during a time when I was so emotionally damaged that I didn’t know if it was even possible to be either.

She prayed for me all the years that I wanted to have a son, but doubted whether a Sherrell boy would ever be a reality in our home. Just recently she asked me to tell the story of our boy, then she teared up as I was telling it. That was a wonderful moment for me. It is so easy to get busy in the hustle and bustle of everyday life and forget how blessed you are. Sometimes you forget all God’s faithful answers to prayer.

Gratitude

There are so many things I could say about the woman who I am blessed to know, and I will say more in my next post. For now I want to end by thanking my friend with the most beautiful heart for teaching me who I want to be, so that I know how I want to bless other women.

Much love,

Mastering Self Motivation

Self motivation is sometimes incredibly difficult, but is essential in the process of achieving a long-term goal. This is something that has come up in my life, both at recent leadership meetings, and in an audiobook I am currently listening to.

MotivationEO

When you first set a goal, you are super excited about it. The sheer enthusiasm will help you to perform the necessary work. If it is a true long-term goal, though, it can be difficult to maintain the same level of enthusiasm for months and years. Add to that the negative people and difficulties that life tends to throw at you, and it is very easy to lose sight of what you are working for, or even to give up all together.

Another issue for me, personally, was discussed by Sandi Krakowski in one of her podcasts. Perfectionism. This is not just an issue in my Young Living business, but in my home life as well. If I am going to take the time to do something, I want to do it right, I want to do it well. I want an A+, I want to be noticed and recognized for a job well done. So I don’t start my projects, I put them off until later, and later, and later. Uhm, this blog hasn’t been updated since when?!

Perfectionist

So at a recent leadership meeting, one of my leaders talked about a method of self motivation called carrot and stick. Your carrot is that awesome thing you want bad and will work hard for. This is your positive reinforcement. Your stick is that negative thing you do not want in your life which may be possible if  you do not take action. You use this to whip your own fanny when getting out of bed and doing the work it takes to get where you want to go seems more difficult than usual. This is the negative reinforcement.

Anyone can easily come up with a carrot and stick that applies to his or her life, then call these to mind in order to stay the course and keep moving forward no matter how difficult, no matter how arduous the task, no matter how many naysayers are around to try to keep you down.

So here is what I came up with: My carrot is being financially free and able to travel with my family and help those in needs in ways that I am called by my Creator. My stick is being stuck in a “healthcare” job forever while continuing to miss all of the big events in the lives of those I love. Needless to say these are personal to me, and likely wouldn’t apply to you, or simply wouldn’t work for you. The key is to find your own carrot and stick.

Let me just say that this has helped tremendously for me! When the urge to go to bed at a decent hour hits, I remember missing Easter recently due to work. This was the first year for my son to really hunt eggs, and I had bought him a suit and would have loved seeing him in it. I stay up and I write. I go to the library to finally update this blog. I teach classes and think on ways to improve on my systems. Some day my kids and I will enjoy a nice cruise to a white sandy beach as a reward for my efforts!

So tell me, what is your carrot and stick?

Blessings,
Sara Sherrell

Evergreen Essence Giveaway

I am so excited for an Evergreen Essence Giveaway as part of the Winter Wonderland Giveaway Hop hosted by Leah Says Views and Weidknecht!!

Winter-Wonderland-Hop-332x332

One of my favorite Christmas Season traditions as a kid was decorating the Christmas tree. When I was young, we always did this on the day after Thanksgiving. After recovering from our Black Friday expeditions, my mom would put on her CD of Handel’s Messiah, and we would put up and decorate the tree. She would play this CD over and over until I complained and rolled my eyes over her renditions of the Hallelujah Chorus enough, she would then finally add some of the other Christmas collections in.

I remember many years begging to have a live tree. It was always fun picking out the perfect one. I also remember one year that my sister and I were a bit over excited and picked one that was far too big to even fit in my parent’s living room. I am fairly certain my parents can fit a 9 foot tree there easily, so I am not sure how big that massive tree was; all I remember was my dad engineering a way to make it work!! Live trees were always so much fun, but I do remember complaining as the needles started to fall out and got stepped on. I remember it hurting, and anyone who knows me well, knows I hate to wear shoes, especially around the house. We didn’t have a “real” tree often, but I remember always hoping for one!

305535_3773852237414_307806821_n

Many of the traditions I enjoyed as a kid have been lost as my husband and I have managed our own home. We have never had a live tree. We have had a few trees through the years. One that my mom gave me, two I bought. I shopped the after Christmas sales hoping for a tree that looks as pretty as my grandma’s, but as of the time of typing this post, I haven’t brought it into my home yet. My husband brings in the tree at the last possible minute, when the kids are finally on full force begging for the tree to be put up. There is no Christmas music. He doesn’t like that either.

I long for the music. I would love to start getting festive sooner. I think everyone would enjoy the smell of a live tree. Since that is unlikely to happen, I hope to get some Evergreen Essence essential oil to diffuse.

EgreenEssMeme

I can almost smell a winter wonderland already, can’t you?

Build YOUR Dream

Build Your Dream is an essential oil blend unveiled by Young Living at the 2014 convention. When it first became available to those who didn’t attend, it was only available in a limited edition kit that also included a gorgeous 20th Anniversary solid wood oil holder. I was determined to get them, and was able to shortly before the kit became unavailable. It is now available with just the essential oil blend.

AnnivBox

At the post-convention local leadership meeting I was able to listen to my leaders talk about this awesome blend. That was when I knew I had to have this in my home!

My leaders talked about having your own dream: big dreams, big God-given goals and dreams. Many people in business, especially network marketing tend to hang on to the dreams of others. I used to listen to podcasts that were motivation for people in all network marketing. I heard big goals, big dreams. Some were buying their parents houses, some were owning other businesses. These are great goals, exciting goals. They aren’t mine though. Having a big goal and a big vision that is true and specific to only you is a powerful thing. They said that if you didn’t have that yet, to use this oil.

BuildYourDream

At the time my goals weren’t particularly big, exciting, or necessarily unique to me. My goals were, and still are to get to a place financially where I would be able to quit working outside the home full-time. I still have the goal of becoming debt free, and building a bigger house. I dreamed of travel with my family. At the time I said that I wanted the time freedom to be able to pursue midwifery. Those are awesome goals. I am passionate about those goals. They are worthy of pursuing, but they don’t hold much vision. They are also not big enough to sustain me in the long-term.

I hadn’t actually used the essential oil when I first got it. I wanted to save it, for what I don’t know. I spent a considerable amount of time after that meeting thinking about purpose and vision. I wanted my own thing. I prayed for God to reveal a big vision, a purpose to me. I needed something much bigger than myself to work for, a way to give back in a way that I am unable to right now.

IMG_20120926_192949

God provided (even before using the oil)! Once the idea was set in my heart it stayed there persistently. I didn’t mention it to my husband because I figured he would think I was crazy! I didn’t mention it to anyone else because I wanted my husband on board first; it affects our family a lot more than the lives of other people, even those whose opinions I most respect.

I finally revealed my heart and my vision. As suspected, he does think I am crazy! He knows well enough though that if God tells you something, it is best to obey, no matter how wild it may appear. We were able to look at floor plans for future homes as a preparation for when all the goals are met and we are able to proceed with building a bigger house and making this far bigger God-given dream a reality. We were able to pray together about Young Living, about goals, and finances. That was so very refreshing and has left me very excited about moving into the future.

Vision

I finally started using the Build Your Dream essential oil blend. I am super excited about using it while picturing all the exciting things that can happen in our future thanks to the opportunity that Young Living provides. I hope that you will give this oil a try, and start on the path to Build Your Dream.

What big goals do you have? Leave a comment and let me know!

Blessings,
